When is a sand analysis necessary? 

A sand analysis is necessary when you are supplying your own sand and adding it to our Lime Putty. Sand is an integral component in lime mortar. In the early days of our countries growth, sand came right out of unpolluted creeks and rivers and had a wide range of particle sizes, making it perfect for lime mortar.  Today, our sand comes from pits and is heavily processed.  Lime Putty needs a wide range of particle sizes to make a successful lime mortar. Using a sand with only a few sizes will surely cause a failure. 

A Sand Analysis Provides:
A sieve analysis of the particle distribution, size and shape.
The sand returned to you in the sieve sizes.
The void space of your sand to determine exactly how much lime putty that needs to be added to your sand.
