Aerolite G-5 by AeroAggregates is a crushed foamed glass with various particle sizes generally under 3/8″. General uses include light weight infill for plaster and mortar. This is a closed cell foamed glass with insulative characteristics. Alternative uses include landscape and garden applications. Use as lightweight insulative fill for green roofs, raised beds and planters. Improves drainage and retains some moisture for plant roots.
Place a layer of closed-cell foam glass aggregate at the base of the pot before adding potting soil. This promotes excellent drainage, prevents waterlogging, reduces overall planter weight (handy for moving large pots), and adds some thermal insulation for roots. It’s superior to heavy gravel in weight and inertness.
