Discover Traditional Lime Plastering: 4-Day Hands-On Training Class
For Professional and Intermediate Plaster Students
Step back in time and master the timeless craft of traditional lime plaster at the historic Ressler Mill. Built in the 1730s, this is one of the oldest mills in Lancaster County and was proudly operated by three generations of the same family. (Read more about The Ressler Mill here!) This immersive, four-day training class blends expert instruction with plenty of real-world practice, giving you the skills and confidence to work with authentic carbonating lime plasters.
Class Topics Include:
- Mixing, hairing (with horse hair), and applying carbonating lime base and finish plasters
- Basement parging techniques
- Traditional three-coat horse hair plaster system — base coat, brown coat, and finish coat
- Beautiful limewashing finishes
- Formal classroom sessions in the Ressler Mill Conference Room
- Hands-on application with expert guidance from start to finish
- Ample time for your questions and personalized feedback
Details:
- Lunch is provided each day.
- Lodging is not included — Lancaster County offers many charming places to stay. Consider extending your trip into a weekend getaway and make new friends in the trade!
- Rain or shine — all sessions held indoors in the historic, non-air-conditioned mill.
- What to wear/bring: Old clothes, closed-toe shoes, and safety glasses (required — lime in the eyes is no fun!).
