The higher permeability of NHL 2.0 is designed for humid settings, or areas with extreme or fluctuating conditions, to expand and contract with the weather. This allows moisture to escape through the mortar joints or plaster allowing the building to “breathe”. “Breathing” through the mortar joints, plaster, and stucco help to prevent interior molds, mildews, and decaying interior wood. Modern types of mortar can’t adapt as readily as NHL 2.0 and will trap water, crack and become brittle over time.
Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL) 2.0 has up to 10% of active hydraulic components, like clay, and will set within one week of mixing with water.
Use NHL 2.0 with Coarse Hemp Shiv to create a plaster basecoat with insulation.
Imported from Portugal, a county with some of the world’s oldest buildings, they’ve created a mortar that will not harm historic structures.
This product comes dry and you will need to purchase your own Mason’s sand. Mix 2 1/2 parts of sand to 1 part NHL measured by VOLUME. The equals approximately 2 1/2, 50 pound bags of Sand for NHL per 1 44 pound bag of NHL. Remember, the color of the sand will largely determine the color of the mortar. Pigments can be added.
