Description
Irish Brown Lime Mortar is a non-hydraulic lime mortar, for bedding and re-pointing. It is premixed with sand and pigments and is ready to use. No need to source any other materials! This is a carbonating lime mortar. It absorbs carbon dioxide in order to set.
- The sand is a perfect blend of carefully graded, interlocking, sharp silica sand.
- Easy workability with high plasticity (sticky). Up to 1 1/2″ of mortar will adhere to your slicker.
- Just the right amount of our lime putty to fill the void space in the sand.
- The lime binder is 98% calcium.
- Low shrinkage
- Water shedding with the correct joint finish.
- Water releasing
- Highly permeable
- Self repairing
- Cushions and flexes with normal building movements
- Lasts in the bucket indefinitely.
- The mortar is freeze/thaw stable, however if the bucket of mortar freezes, the bucket could crack.
Irish Brown Lime Mortar comes in a 5 gallon bucket and weighs approximately 85 pounds. Each bucket will re-point approximately 65 ft² for a 3/8″ wide mortar joint at 3/4″ deep.
We recommend using our beater attachment to “knock up” (mix rigorously) for minutes before using. This energizes the calcium in the mortar. Remove the water on the top and save. Put that water back on the top of the mortar if it is not used. To avoid failure, do not re-point in temperatures below 40°F.
For areas of high exposure such as chimneys and foundations: Add Pozzolan. Pozzolan is a type of clay that makes Lime Putty Mortars more durable and robust in extreme environments. Click here to read more about Pozzolan!
A note about color: A sliced joint verses a weathered joint may appear to be two different colors even though they are the same color. Shadowing, joint recession, and finishing techniques etc. will affect color perception.
All ingredients sourced and made in the USA!
