Cathedral Stone’s R-97 Water Repellent is historic masonry’s answer to repelling water! It has a perm rating of 97 out of 100, which makes it highly compatible with all historic masonry. R-97 works by establishing a powerful chemical network within the substrate pores, keeping moisture and oil out! Not only does R-97 Water Repellent keep surfaces dry and easy to clean, it does not block pores, which is essential for vapor transmission (breathability). Suitable substrates are brick, grout, unpolished marble, limestone, tile and other masonry surfaces. R-97 is water based, non-flammable, environmentally friendly, UV stable, odorless and leaves a natural finish (no sheen). This Water Repellent creates an easily cleanable surface for dirt, oil, grime, tar, soil, etc.
For best results the surface must be clean, dry and free of foreign contaminates. This includes mildew, algae, fungus and staining. We recommend prior cleaning with Cathedral Stone’s Bio-Cleaner. Repair all cracks, and spalls. All repairs must be dry. Remove peeling paint, etc. prior to applying R-97. Cathedral Stone’s Heavy Duty Paint Remover will take care of that peeling paint! Substrate must be completely dry prior to installation. Apply with a sprayer, brush or roller. Do not work if precipitation is expected within 24 hours of installation. Only one application is necessary. Saturate the surface with R-97 until is starts to run. If two coats are desired, always apply wet to wet. Do not let the first coat dry before applying the second coat!
As always, do a test patch!
A 5 Gal bucket typically covers 1000 – 1500 ft² depending on the porosity of the surface. Read and follow all manufacturer’s instructions.
