Aged Lime Putty
We have a saying at Lancaster Lime Works and that is, “Lime is not lime, is not lime!” There are many types of lime, but very few will will act as a binder in lime mortar. Our natural aged lime putty has no aggregate and starts with a high calcium, high carbonating, specially processed lime. A completely natural product that’s ready for your own aggregate. Natural lime hardens with a very different chemical process than hydraulic binders. The hydraulic binders react with water to harden. Natural aged lime putty reacts with carbon dioxide to harden. If kept away from the air, it will remain soft indefinitely. It is the most flexible and the most vapor permeable. It is the historic binder for lime mortar, plaster, stucco, and limewash.
